How to lodge a complaint relating to Environmental Issue?
The National Environmental Crimes and Incidents Hotline is operated by the Department of Environmental Affairs. Established in 2006, it has been operational ever since, with members of the public being able to report alleged non-compliance with environmental legislation, ranging from the illegal dumping of waste and the poaching of wildlife and protected species’ to the lack of water and sanitation services to local communities. This toll-free hotline not only provides a platform for members of the public to voice their concerns about environmental transgressions, but also extends the capability of environmental authorities to detect and tackle non-compliances.

Once a matter is reported to the hotline either it will be investigated by the Environmental Management Inspectorate or referred to another department.
The Department of Mineral Resources relates to a mining company.
You will be provided with a reference number for your call. Keep a copy of that reference number for any follow up on the matter.
Send an email to NEMAcomplaints@dmr.gov.za if your complaint relates to a mining company not complying with its licences or environmental laws and/or committing an environmental crime.
Phone the Department of Water and Sanitation’s call centre on 0800 200 200 if your complaint relates to the pollution of a water resource, or
Phone the Department of Water and Sanitation’s fraud and corruption hotline on 0800 701 701 if your complaint relates to fraudulent activities.
Always provide as much detail as possible on the violation. It is essential to provide full address, City, Address. IE the exact location of where the violation has occurred is essential.
